Treatment of Mood and Eating Disorders

PLEASE NOTE: MY PRACTICE IS CURRENTLY FULL AND I AM NOT ABLE TO ACCEPT NEW CLIENTS AT THIS TIME.

I specialize in the treatment of eating and mood disorders. Anorexia, Bulimia, and Binge Eating, as well as Depression, Anxiety, and Bipolar disorder form the bulk of my practice. I also work at the intersection of mind-body disorders such as migraine, autoimmune conditions, cancer, chronic pain, and terminal illness.

My training includes an internship and post-doctoral fellowship at Beth Israel Hospital/Harvard Medical School and 25 years of specialized experience. I’m an active therapist, and I bring a practical focus, as well as a desire to understand the underlying factors that shape who you are.  With adolescent treatments, meeting with the parents or family periodically to understand things from the larger picture can be very helpful.

Mind/body problems are difficult to treat. General therapists are often unsure about what to do to help. Psychiatrists, specialty physicians, and nutritionists may all be useful to engage at some point. You will be referred to them, as needed.  It is important that your care is comprehensive and all the critical facets of the disease are addressed.

Our first few sessions will be a chance to review your concerns and what you would like to accomplish. After that, if you like the way we work together, we can develop a treatment plan and schedule regular appointments.

INSURANCE AND BILLING

As a small solo practice, I do not accept insurance directly, but I will provide you with a receipt with all the information you will need to seek reimbursement on your own. Check with your insurer to see about your mental health coverage for a fully licensed, out-of-network, Ph.D. clinical psychologist. Sessions are $250 for 45 minute appointments. Statements are sent monthly, via a secure billing program, and payment is made online with an echeck or credit card.

APPOINTMENTS

Regular weekly appointments are necessary to accomplish real change. Many people find that coming more often allows them to make deeper and more lasting changes. We will decide, together, the schedule that is right for you.

TREATMENT PHILOSOPHY AND SCHEDULING SYSTEM

Beginning therapy requires a significant commitment from you, to come regularly and pay for the spot you are reserving in the schedule. I try to be a good steward of my time, and use it well. Please keep in mind that other patients are turned away to make space for you, and only reserve appointments that you plan on keeping.

Sessions are 45 minutes long and need to end promptly to keep the schedule on time for the following appointments. If the session is delayed or late in starting, this will shorten your time.

For Severe Michigan Winter Weather: If you feel that you would be endangering yourself to come to the the appointment, we can switch to doing the session by phone, or mutually agree to cancel if roads are simply impassable.–
