Providing individual and family therapy to adolescents and adults is the primary focus of my practice. I also supervise other psychotherapists who want to gain expertise in adolescent or adult treatment. My goal is to provide a comfortable atmosphere, where people can discuss their concerns freely.
The initial consultation may extend over several sessions. It involves an individual interview, as well as meeting with parents if the client is a minor. We review your current concerns and the history of the problem as well as current functioning.
We typically meet weekly or twice weekly depending on the severity of symptoms and the goals you have. We can renegotiate the frequency of our sessions as treatment progresses.
In some cases, individual therapy progresses faster if the family can come together and talk about what is happening. Individual problems happen in the context of the larger system and both affect each other in powerful ways. Illuminating those effects can set treatment on a straighter course. Balancing the privacy needs of the adolescent in treatment is always important in these situations.
As a small solo practice, I don’t take insurance directly. Even though I don’t accept insurance, many people receive substantial reimbursement from their insurance company. To determine if you have mental health coverage for a full license, out-of-network mental health provider, check your coverage carefully. Some questions to ask your insurance carrier are:
What are my mental health benefits for an out of network fully licensed clinical psychologist?
What is the coverage amount per therapy session for an out of network provider?
How many therapy sessions does my plan cover for an out of network provider?
Do I need to contact my primary care physician for approval of the treatment?
Monthly invoices are sent by email, and paid online with a check or credit card.
Your appointments are important. Those times are reserved especially for you. Please understand that if you forget, cancel, or change your appointment without giving enough notice, I usually can’t fill that time slot. It sits empty and unused. And people on the waiting list are unable to make the most of an open slot. This is an undesirable situation for all concerned.
I value my time, and would like to use it productively.
Please understand that it is your responsibility to remember your appointment dates and times in order to prevent any missed appointments and cancellation fees.
Sessions end 45 minutes after the scheduled start time. Any late arrival will shorten your appointment time and the missed time will not be made up by running into the next client’s scheduled appointment.
For Severe Michigan Winter Weather: If you feel that you would be endangering yourself to come to the the appointment, we can switch to doing the session by phone, or mutually agree to cancel if roads are simply impassable
